Breaking News!

Today A Piece A Day becomes Eight Pieces A Day!  The reason I said I should have waited until the end of the quarter is that I have to write an analytical paper this weekend in order to pass into my second year of coursework.  But it turns out the assignment also involves putting the piece (Saariaho’s Sept Papillons) in the context of the contemporary solo cello repertoire.  Since I’m going to be listening to a pile of recent European cello music (and a little viola music for good measure) today anyway, I figured I might as well write some quick thoughts on them here too.  So stay tuned for a whole bunch of posts today!
